Mimicry is an independent game, VR and software development studio composed of Thomas Papa, Daniela Fontes, Artur Gomes, Pedro Oliveira and José Vieira. We are based in Leusden, the Netherlands and have a development studio in the historic city of Coimbra, Portugal.
Mimicry was founded by Thomas in 2012, with the goal of creating artistically motivated videogames. We soon expanded into app development, services, virtual reality experiences and games with a broader reach.
Having worked with virtual reality since early 2013, we offer our expertise in the form of development services and consulting for VR. Using the latest VR technology, we explore the limits of experiential game design.
Our first title, the short interactive drama “Leaving”, was released on iPad in 2013. After this first commercial release, we developed multiple, smaller projects. Notable titles include the VR project “Highland” (Winner of Exile Game Jam, 2013) and the educational mobile VR app for Google Cardboard “Space Shuttle Tour Cardboard” (2016).
We are currently working on the classic science fiction inspired, multiplayer VR game “Maker from Below” (working title). In addition, we have partnered with the Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Life Sciences (IBILI) of the University of Coimbra, the Portuguese Association for Developmental Disorders and Autism Coimbra (APPDA) in association with LifespanVL, for the development of “Connexions Academy”, a virtual learning environment that helps high-functioning adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder develop social and cognitive skills in a safe, secure and trusted environment.
